    Regulation versus control

Control asks children to manage what their nervous systems cannot.

Regulation builds capacity by supporting safety first.

Telling a dysregulated child to calm down rarely works – because calm isn't available yet. Regulation happens through connection, co-regulation, and felt safety.

This isn't about lowering expectations. It's about building the foundation that makes expectations reachable.

A quiet moment before you go

Take a slow breath in through your nose.

Let the exhale be a little longer than the inhale.

Notice where your body is supported -
the chair, the floor, the ground beneath you.

Nothing needs to be decided right now.

    Nothing needs to be fixed.

Let this be enough for now.
